Thanksgiving Day 2015 Rome, where to celebrate on Thursday November 26th. Who knows if the American traditions are seeping into Italy like olive oil (take a look at Halloween recently introduced to Italy and now widely celebrated); amongst these, the tradition of Thanksgiving is capturing the spirit of Romans too. At Vivi Bistrot Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday November 26th offers a substantial menu that pays attention to high quality primary ingredients: cream of organic pumpkin with goat cheese and a homemade pie crust, traditional roasted turkey stuffed with chestnuts and sausage, gravy, mashed potatoes, biologically-grown green beans with garlic, ginger and sesame seeds, radicchio salad with pancetta and balsamic vinegar. Don’t despair, the desserts are not missing: chocolate brownies with whipped cream, and pumpkin pie with blueberry chutney. Reservations are required.

Bakery House

Bakery House, a temple of desserts and bagels in stars and stripes, is organizing a thanksgiving dinner. The protagonist will be the turkey, which is stuffed with pistachios, prunes and chestnuts and served with gravy and cranberry sauce. The menu includes, bean flan, mushrooms and parmesan cheese scented with aromatic herbs. To give you a reason to be thankful, there will be pumpkin cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and the classic pumpkin pie. From Friday November 20th, you can find in the shop some thanksgiving themed products, such as pumpkin pie and cupcakes, and 50% of proceeds will be donated to Save the Children.

When: Two seatings: 8pm and 9:45pm

L’Uliveto Rome Cavalieri

At L’Uliveto, one of the restaurants in the hotel Rome Cavalieri, Thanksgiving day is refined, with not only a beautiful view over the park from the hotel, but a menu with antipasti that include a pate with blueberries, smoked salmon with horseradish, and for the main courses there is the omnipresent traditional stuffed Turkey with gravy and cranberries. The meal finishes in elegance with a vast assortment of desserts: pumpkin pie, pumpkin pudding with cheese, and a berry cream with vanilla sauce.

Heading out of the center toward the Grande Raccordo Motorway circling Rome, we arrive at the italian-american pizzeria Mama’s, for Thanksgiving dinner in pure American style; it starts at 7pm (a little bit early for Roman standards) with Yankee corn chowder (with red peppers and crostini) and roasted turkey with cranberry sauce, and sides such as roasted prosciutto, brussel sprouts, and caramelized sweet potatoes with pecans. If you manage to get to deserts, to end on a sweet note there is the traditional pumpkin pie with crème Fraiche to eat while you listen to the jazz musician, Andrea Pagani. Reservations required.

Hard Rock Cafè

The famous American chain could not miss the chance to celebrate Thanksgiving day. The Hard Rock Cafe dedicated the whole day to the holiday; the menu, available for lunch or dinner, includes a choice of first course of corn chowder or savory pies with seasonal vegetables and a cheese sauce; stuffed turkey with cranberry sauce, served with mashed potatoes, vegetables, gravy; and pumpkin or apple pie with gelato for dessert. Includes a bottle of Millers Beer, and a choice of Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, 7 UP, Schwepps Orange, and water. Starting at 8pm the 7 Hills Gospel Choir will accompany the feast.
